- Is this an accessible event?
Yes! All our sites are accessible and equipped with accessible restrooms.
- What time does the film start?
Gates open at 6pm every day (except in St Kilda where gates open at 6.30pm and Auckland where we open at 7pm) but we have to wait for the sun to set in order to start the film so in Brisbane/Perth/Gold Coast the film starts around 7.30pm, in Adelaide/Christchurch/Canberra around 8pm and in St Kilda/Bondi/Auckland/Inner West around 8.30pm.
- Can I bring my dog?
Absolutely, all our screenings are dog friendly. Just make sure you bring your poop scoop and your pooch is on a leash at all times.
- What time do the gates open?
Gates open at 6pm (6.30pm in St Kilda, 7pm in Auckland) so come down early for frosty drinks and to nab the best spots before the film starts after sunset.
- How can we pay for tickets, food and drink at the event?
We are entirely cashless so leave your coins at home and tap and go!
- What’s included in the American Express Lounge ticket?

- Can I take photos at the event?
Yes, take as many photos as you like and share your selfies with us on Instagram (@openaircinemasau and #openaircinemas). Just don’t record any of the films, that’s not allowed.
- Can I smoke at the cinema?
No, American Express Openair Cinemas are smoke free venues. If you want to have a smoke you can head outside the venue and come back in when you’re ready as your wristband allows you to walk in and out freely.
- Can we purchase food and drinks at the event?
Absolutely! We have a fully licensed bar and yummy food! You can also purchase one of our Food & Drink combos to make a night of it and save
(NB: combos do not include your entry ticket).
- Do you have gluten free and vegan options?
This depends on the caterer we work for in your city. Please refer to the food menu on your city’s website for more information around gluten free and vegan options.
- Can I bring my own food and drinks?
You are more than welcome to pack a picnic basket as long as it doesn’t include alcohol, anything in glass bottles and sharp knives.
- How much are tickets?
General Admission tickets are $20, Concession tickets $17,American Express Lounge tickets $35 and Star Lounge tickets $40.
- What’s included in a general admission ticket?
A general admission ticket (or general concession ticket) gives you access to the site but does not include seating, perfect if you’re going picnic style! Bring a picnic rug or a blanket and enjoy our fluffy grass.
If you’d like a bit more comfort you can hire one of our loungers, bring your own seating or upgrade to the American Express Lounge.
- What’s included in a Star Lounge ticket?
Star Lounge tickets include a reserved lounger, a warm blanket hire in case of chilly breezes, wait service straight to your seat and a glass of Giesen wine (or non-alcoholic beverage). Tickets are reserved but non allocated, you are guaranteed a seat in Star Lounge but seating is first in best dressed.
- What are the seating arrangements?
That depends on the ticket type you book! General Admission tickets do not include seating but Star Lounge tickets do. If you purchase General Admission tickets you can hire one of our loungers online or at the door (if they didn’t sell out previously) or bring your own seating. Please avoid high camping chairs as they would obstruct other patrons’ view of the screen.

- Who is eligible for concession tickets?
Concession tickets are valid for students, seniors, concession card holders and all kids aged 5-17. Kids aged 4 and under as well as companion holders come for free and do not need a ticket (except in Star Lounge).
- I’m under 18, can I come with friends?
As we are a fully-licensed venue, you will need to be accompanied by someone 18 and older to gain entry.
- What if it rains or gets cold?
Openair Cinemas is an all-weather outdoor event that will go ahead in most weather conditions. Films will still be screened if it rains intermittently, so bring wet weather gear just in case of showers. If the screening is going ahead you will receive an email titled “Everything you need to know for tonight’s screening” around 4pm. If the weather conditions are unsafe (strong winds and storms), the event’s organisers will cancel the screening and let ticket holders know via email and text usually around 4pm on the date of the screening. This email will contain a voucher code for the value of your booking, allowing you to rebook for another screening.
- Do you accept companion cards?
Absolutely! If you are a companion card holder you can come for free. Just show your card at box office on the night to get your General Admission ticket. Please note this offer only applies to General Admission tickets.
- I’d like to make a group/function booking
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive a promo code for 10 or more tickets purchased to any one session and you’ll receive 20% off your General Admission tickets price. Please note this code is not valid for concession and Star Lounge tickets.

- Do my children need tickets?
It depends how old they are: all children 5 and over must have a concession ticket but kids aged 4 and under can join you for free (maximum 2 children per adult). If you wish to purchase Star Lounge tickets and don’t mind having your child on your lap they will only need a concession ticket. However, if you want them to have their own seat they will need a Star Lounge ticket.
Please note that under 18s must be accompanied by a guardian or parent at all times as we are a fully licensed venue.
- Can I buy tickets on the night?
Most of our sessions sell out online prior to the night of the screening, so we recommend getting in quick and booking now to secure your spot! However, if the session has not previously sold out then there will be tickets available at the box office on the night.
- I can’t find my tickets
No worries! If you’re 100% sure that your payment went through you can just say your name at box office on the night and our friendly staff will be able to locate your booking in the system.
If you’re not 100% sure your booking went through and would like confirmation just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org mentioning the name you booked under and the city you’re based in and we’ll resend your tickets.
- Can I show my tickets on my phone to gain admission?
Yes please! No need to print your tickets, save the trees!
- Do I need to print my tickets?
Nope! We’re all for saving paper (and the trees). You can just show your tickets on your phone and our box office staff can scan them directly on your screen. If you can’t find your tickets, no panic, just say your name at box office and our friendly staff will be able to locate your booking in our system.
- I can’t go anymore
Sorry to hear! We have a strict no refund policy but would be happy to transfer your tickets to another screening this season. Just send an email to email@example.com to let us know which session you’d like to reschedule your tickets to (date and film). Alternatively, you can give them to a friend without having to change the name on the tickets.
